Round 1 is set in the Lord Of The Rings-verse.
- To take part, you must have a working knowledge of the canon involved.
- Acceptable canon is both book!verse as well as movie!verse. This means that elements from both can be used in a way that significantly impacts plotlines*. You can still use other canon sources as well, but please try to make sure that the next author's understanding/recognizing them is not crucially important to the plot. Also, if you do use other sources, do not be surprised (or offended) if the next author takes those elements and runs with them in a non-canonical direction.
* Of course, you cannot mix them at random. If a previous author sends Glorfindel to take Frodo to Rivendell, you cannot suddenly have Arwen taking on the same role. But you can have Glorfindel come to the rescue and still have Haldir die at Helm's Deep later in the same story. - Stories must be rated G - R. When in doubt, contact me and we'll discuss the matter.
- Slash is not acceptable. Neither is RPS/RPF (though how you'd pull that off within the LotR-verse is beyond me ;-)). Other than that, pretty much anything goes. When in doubt, contact me.
- For crossovers, rule #2 applies to other universes as well as other canon sources.
- Deadlines are there for a reason. We all have Real Lives that can sometimes encroach on our writing time, but please, try to make your deadline. Someone else will be waiting eagerly to continue your storyline! If you run into trouble, contact me as early as possible.
- There is no limit for the length of an installment, but try to advance the story in a significant way, while at the same time not restricting the next author overly much. A good rule of thumb is something like 600-800 words (this should also be close to the limit of 4,300 characters that LJ sets for comments anyway).
- By taking part in the Tumble, you agree to have the stories, including your installments, published to this journal. With the proper credits assigned to each writer, of course!
- Most importantly, HAVE FUN!
